Apple Crisp

This recipe may be one you're familiar with but it's a favorite at our house so I'm including it in Applemania!  As usual, please use organic, whole food ingredients if possible.

4 cups pared, sliced apples (I like Cortlands)
1 cup flour of your choice (we use organic, unrefined flour w/wheat germ)
3/4 cup packed brown sugar (rapadura or evap cane juice with 1/2tsp molasses)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup butter

Butter your baking dish.
Slice apples and spread over bottom of dish. (If you like, you can add raisins and cranberries, )
Blend remaining ingredients until crumbly.
Sprinkle over apples.
Bake at 375° for 30-35 minutes.

Serve warm.  Plain, with a scoop of vanilla frozen yogurt or a dollop of fresh whipped cream.

I make the crumb topping up ahead of time and store in the freezer.  That way I can whip up a quick treat for unexpected guests or when I'm in a hurry.
